Het kenmerk van deze serie is zijn lichtheid.<\/p>\n<p>De Unimog 407 is een kleine, lichte en zuinige werkmachine. Hij was bedoeld voor gebruik overal waar krachtige multifunctionele voertuigen in alle omstandigheden nodig waren. De sterke punten van deze voertuigen waren dat ze klein en wendbaar waren en een evenwichtige verhouding boden tussen rijruimte, spoorbreedte en stabiliteit.<\/p>\n<p>De 407-serie volgde de 421-serie op die sinds 1966 bestond.  De beste manier om de 407-serie te onderscheiden van de U 421 is de plaats van het inlaatspruitstuk, dat zich bij de 407 aan de linkerkant bevindt, terwijl het zich bij de 421 aan de rechterkant bevindt.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"De_modellen_van_de_Unimog_407-serie\"><\/span>De modellen van de Unimog 407-serie<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>De 407-serie werd in drie varianten aangeboden:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>de U 600 (BM 407.100) met een korte wielbasis (2250 mm),<\/li>\n<li>de U 650 (BM 407.110) als &#8220;werkmachine met lange wielbasis&#8221; (2605 mm),<\/li>\n<li>de U 650 L (BM 407.111) als &#8220;terreinwagen&#8221;, die door zijn lange wielbasis (2605 mm) bijzonder geschikt was voor speciale carrosserie\u00ebn.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"De_motor_en_transmissie_van_de_Unimog_407-serie\"><\/span>De motor en transmissie van de Unimog 407-serie<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Het was de viercilinder dieselmotor van het typeOM 616 waarmee de 407-serie was uitgerust. Op de U600 was het vermogen beperkt tot 52 pk. Later werd het vermogen opgevoerd tot 60 pk voor de U650 en U650 L.<\/p>\n<p>Een nieuwe volledig gesynchroniseerde transmissie met schuine vertanding en pneumatische tussenschakeling werd in de lichte serie ge\u00efnstalleerd. Hij had acht versnellingen vooruit en vier achteruit.<\/p>\n<p>Deze nieuwe transmissie had:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>verbeterd soepele werking en verminderde oppervlaktedruk dankzij de schuine vertanding,<\/li>\n<li>geoptimaliseerde versnellingsspreiding,<\/li>\n<li>precieze en korte schakelbewegingen,<\/li>\n<li>gemakkelijk en snel schakelen,<\/li>\n<li>een volledig gesynchroniseerde versnellingsbak,<\/li>\n<li>verbeterd rijgedrag door pneumatisch schakelen van tussenliggende versnellingen.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>De modellen van de 407-serie waren ook altijd uitgerust met dubbele hydraulische trommelremmen.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Comfort_esthetiek_en_ergonomie_van_de_407-serie\"><\/span>Comfort, esthetiek en ergonomie van de 407-serie<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Het chassis werd opnieuw ontworpen, met standaard een versterkte voorasvering. Een extra ge\u00efnstalleerde stabilisator heeft bijgedragen tot een betere wegligging. De stuurkinematica is ook geoptimaliseerd door de as- en chassiscomponenten te wijzigen.<\/p>\n<p>De 407 serie was alleen verkrijgbaar als gesloten versie. De cabine uit de jaren 1970 werd behouden en gemoderniseerd. Het werd herzien en bijgewerkt voor de lichte en middelzware Unimog-series in 1988. De cabine werd met 160 mm verhoogd en de voorruit met 25% vergroot.<\/p>\n<p>Het vergrote interieur en de grotere hoofdruimte, in combinatie met een aanzienlijk verbeterde ergonomie van de bedieningselementen en een nieuw, effici\u00ebnter verwarmings- en ventilatiesysteem, boden de bestuurder een werkplek die is aangepast aan de toekomstige eisen van een werkende machine.
